It's easy! Just snap a photo using our iPhone or Android app, or upload a photo using the HipSwap website. Then price your item, title it, and post it into the HipSwap marketplace. Within seconds, you're selling fabulous things to people in your neighborhood, city and across America.
Fees
It's FREE to list your item on HipSwap. When your item sells, there's an introductory 3.5% transaction fee. So if you sell an item for $100, you would be charged $3.50 in transaction fees. And items stay in the marketplace for up to 1 month or until the item is sold and paid for by the buyer.
Selling an item.
HipSwap enables buyers to purchase your items using PayPal or major credit cards. We recommend PayPal as it facilitates instant payment and offers fraud protection. When the item sells both the buyer and seller receive emails with transaction details.
Set up your own shop.
Whether you're selling stuff from your closet, your garage, your home or your store, all HipSwap sellers get their own shop (or profile) for free. And you can customize your shop by adding a bio or links to your web site, Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest.
Why do you ask for my credit card number?
We ask for your credit card number because we charge an introductory 3.5% transaction fee on any sales you make. For example, if you sell an item for $100, we would bill you $3.50 at the end of the month. This is the only fee for using HipSwap. It is completely free to post as many items for sale as you want. We only take a fee when you make money.
Why do you ask for my PayPal email address?
We ask for your PayPal email address because buyers will pay you via PayPal, and they need somewhere to send the money.
How do I get my item to the buyer?
You can get your item to the buyer in one of two ways:
How can I ensure a safe transaction? How will I know if I'm being scammed?
We are committed to making our marketplace as safe and secure as possible. Sadly, there are always people looking to take advantage of honest people. Here are a few tips to ensure a safe transaction on HipSwap:
Why won't my item post?
If you are trying to post a lot of photos, or your photos are very large, it can slow down the posting process. It helps to reduce the size of your photos ahead of time using an image editing program on your computer or a website like http://www.imageoptimizer.net/
How big should my images be?
HipSwap optimizes and crops all images posted to our site, so normally you shouldn't have to do anything to your image before you post it. However, if you would like to crop your image ahead of time so you know exactly how it will appear on HipSwap, you should cut it down to 960 pixels high by 640 pixels wide if it's a vertical image. Or, 640 pixels high by 960 pixels wide if it's a horizontal image.
How do I delete an item?
You can remove an item from sale by clicking on your name at the top right of this page, then clicking "For Sale." On the "For Sale" page, click "Remove Item" on the item you want to remove.
How do I cancel my account?
To cancel your account, click on your name at the top right of this page, then click "My Profile." On the next page, click "Edit Profile" on the lefthand side. On that page, scroll down all the way and click "Cancel my account."
