I started Bougie out of a love for design. For years, I've been an interior designer/ decorator and thoroughly enjoy it. Throughout these years I've noticed the same trend with the majority of my clients... Sticker shock when buying American made products. Now, after the crash of the housing market my business has inevitably suffered in a big way... and, in this ever changing world, one must be versatile. So, one day I'm out with a friend shopping for handbags and having a discussion on this very topic. I pick up an adorable clutch made by a local American designer and it's $90- on sale! I looked at my friend and said "Are you kidding? I can make this." and I did. Now I'm hooked! I'm still designing and decorating homes, but I've branched out and am making handbags and accessories for sale in boutiques and online. I'm not buying into the lie that you have to overpay for a quality American made product anymore. In an economy where the cost of everything is continuing to go up when wages and individual security is going down, it's time for change. I'm going to continue to make quality products and offer them at prices that are affordable to the average Joe/Jane. Hopefully it'll catch on and more American business owners, manufacturers, and designers will do the same. You never know... even a small pebble thrown into the pond can cause a big ripple! I'm a woman, a wife, and a mom. I'm an advocate for education, equal rights, and the protection of children and animals. I believe in never giving up on your passion, find your niche, do good things- and they'll come back to you...
