This original moody watercolor by Ellen Gabehart, painted in 1981, depicts a particular seacoast area of Oregon. The tugboat and the building in the background are favorite subjects of both oil and watercolor painters. Watercolor is a difficult medium and Gabehart has done a particularly fine rendering. The painting was subjected to two different lighting styles, which accounts for the two different presentations.
Ellen has an extensive education in the fine arts. She has taught art through most grades of the school system from elementary schools through college. She lives in Springfield, Oregon, and teaches at art centers, senior citizen centers and the University of Oregon Craft Center, OASIS, and other venues.
The "Tugboat" watercolor is 25 and 5/8" by 33.5" and is securely mounted in a modern silver finish frame, which is 28.25" by 34.25."
